A Subway Story: The Movie is in The Map

November 21, 2005 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Click here or on the subway map to watch my Quick Time tale of travelling all across this great city of mine. Accidentally. Although I’m usually pretty good with navigating the subway system, construction and new lines has made getting around on the N,R,W & Q trains confusing. I’ve gone over the Manhattan Bridge by mistake before, and I’m not the only one: each time I’ve done it I’ve looked around the car and seen several people throw up their hands in frustration at noticing they are over water instead of underground.

Vera Cruz on Bedford Avenue is a nice place to stop and enjoy a margarita. Sno-Balls are a sticky treat that’s terrific anytime! You just don’t want to dress like one. Pork buns are one of my most favorite snacks. They are worth getting lost for.

Talking is a much faster way of getting a story out, hence this video. I was never a very good typist.

It’s okay. I got lost too in Hawaii. In HAWAII of all places, on an island!!! And I’ve lived here most of my life. It’s so sad because my coworker from New York who’s only been here for a year knows his away around here better than me. S-A-D.

BTW, did anyone ever tell you that you have such a great personality?! Usually when watching other people talk to their vlogger audiences, it’s a bit boring, but your vlog and your subway story was sooo interesting I just kept watching. Great vlog job!!!!

Man, I have to catch up on the actual movies. Viewing them at work is a no-no.

Hope things are going well. thank youfor your frequent visits. I will have to create a link for you, if that’s ok, in my blog tome.

Haha, I can so totally imagine this. I’m from Chicago and we have a pretty extensive mass transit system here too …

“The L” has been a very healthy source of funny stories and frustrations for me … that may explain why I take a cab so often now. :-P

Glad you made it back :-)

I think getting lost is part of NY life. If you haven’t been lost in NY you haven’t experienced NY.

I watched this one before I went to bed and then the next day I woke up with your subway story rattling around in my head. I live in Japan, in Fukuoka City there a couple subway lines and two major train lines…I still get mixed up and end up in the wrong place every now and then…
I never thought to call the Chinese dish you (and I imagine everyone else) calls a Pork Bun a Pork Bun…they are sold everywhere in Japan…hmmmm…the Japanese verison anyway…and it is called a CHUKA MAN, or NIKU MAN…anyhow…that was a great post…

Great story, retold perfectly! I too have had some similar experiences on the Chicago subway system… but I threw up while the train was coming, which I then missed, as after I had realized that I left my bag at the bar… so, decided to walk back except I didn’t realize what station I was at and got lost… taking a few hours to find a hotel to call someone to find me in the dead of winter… but I won’t go into that :) So, be happy you didn’t have more drinks like I had!

You are effing adorable! My husband goes into the city about 1 or 2 times a week. Yesterday he was telling me ‘I think I finally get the subway system’ this after accidently going to queens when he meant to just get across town. whoopsie.

Thats the best new york subway story in a while. I must admit I have never gone across the manhattan bridge on purpose. I lived in NYC so long I remeber when the letters were all doubles ‘LL’ etc. I’m still at a loss with I go back and visit and the lines aren’t the same.

Yeah, I’m not even sure exactly what neighborhood the Manhattan Bridge leads to, I’ve never done it on purpose, either! I remember those double-letter lines, too! I still call the G the GG and the L the Double-L. People look at me funny. Actually, I think that doubling the numbers/letters of all local trains was a pretty foolproof system. I have no idea why they ditched it.

That was SO funny. I happened to read it the day after I’d taken the 10 p.m.-4 a.m. shift in my aunt’s hospital room (pneumonia + Alzheimers). I left the hospital and all I wanted to do was sleep…but drove twenty miles in the wrong direction before I realized I’d taken a wrong turn and had to turn around and drive all the way back.

I could have used a margarita!

    Mom again,
You really tickled me Elmo with that one.
really hilarious. I guess the transit strike is going to make some very soggy pork buns. Oh well.
