I work the overnight shift 7pm to 7am, which can wreak havoc on my days off. Specifically, it virtually destroys that very first day off after a string of shifts, because I need a whole day to re-adjust to a more “normal” schedule. I get home from work at 8:30am, go straight to bed, wake up at around 3pm and start my day. This leads to dinner at 10pm, and a whole night of…well…killing time at home. Few of my friends want to meet me for dinner at 10pm, so I keep busy with various in-house activities such as attempting to interact with the television as much as possible. But no matter how much I talk to it, it never listens…
…until last night, that is.
Featuring some of America’s favorites: Hummus, The Tick, The Punisher, James bond, The Girl Scouts and a couple of 1970’s monster movie icons.

Ya, nightshifts throw your sleep off. At least you’re off your feet when you get home. It’s no wonder people ask for night differential.

I miss having cable and the Sci-Fi channel for the Godzilla marathons. Back in my partying days, we used to watch Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network at night.

That’s exactly what I’d do if I went to school the night shift. Too bad there isn’t school at night huh. :S
The sound of the Tick cartoon in the background was funny.

When I was your age…. god I hate starting a comment out with that statement.. on Friday nights you would have tv until, gasp!, 2 am! And it was the Friday Fright movies of really cheesy black and white movies which were not good straight so you had to make sure you wern’t straight. Oh, and those were the days of 14″ black and white tvs, no remote and 4 channels. So, you have it good, missy!
I’d have dinner with you at 10 pm! Call me!
Peace

I DO remember in our pre-cable days we boasted a whopping 7 channels (not including UHF) and no remote. We made the switch to color when I was about six. The first color tv show I remember seeing at home was Captain Kangaroo. I remember thinking that I had been wrong about his wearing a navy blue sportcoat…it turned out to be red. Staying up with friends ’till the tv stopped broadcasting was one of the great memories of my childhood. Channell 11 was our local city channel with cartoon every day after school and all the monster movies on Friday nights & Sunday afternoons. Always old Hammer films. Then every Thanksgiving there was the King Kong/Mighty Joe Young/Godzilla marathon on Channel 9. Gave me something to do when all the adults were cooking…

love your night doing whatever you want in the way and when you need to do it, I think it’s a totally self respect of your needs

Please have me over so we can have dip for dinner. Oh, and wine.
And we can play with that handbag collection you have stashed in your pad.

That was so funny. TV. I know I couldn’t live without it. So sad, right?

SEVEN channels? You’re such a child. We had three on our first set–and a test pattern on all 3 after midnight (with, of course, the flag and the Star Spangled Banner played before signing off to test pattern).
I think I’m going to crawl back to bed now.
(I absolutely loved this video, BTW)

E is clapping. I think he liked your Dragnet impression. I was a little worried you would shoot your glasses off, but never fear.
Now I really, really REALLY want to VLOG.
You rock.
All those years I worked nights, I just went to bed. If only I had known the possibilities.

When I first came to Japan I watched TV all the time, for language practice, and I was also in awe of the interesting cooking shows and the whole honeymoon culture thing, however these days I don’t turn it on…I should I know, to brush up on my Japanese, however I have found myself glued to my iMac instead…

MissB-
My computer isn’t cooperating with the video download! I can see from the comments that I am missing some good stuff. I’m going to try again in a bit. Meanwhile, I read the previous post and went to the asshat link and found the Gene Simmons interview. I actually heard that interview with Terry Gross, and it is just as painful reading it! I wanted to stop but it was a train wreck…I couldn’t look away. I’ll be back for a second try with the video…

Late night TV at it’s best. That Tick episode is a good one, but I have to say my favourite is The Tick Vs. The Uncommon Cold. The Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter impression done for Thrakkorzog’s voice gets me every time.
Great video.

Wonderful TV vlog. My favorite show as a kid was Mighty Mouse. I also recall Captain Kangaroo and Jack Benny.
