my new babies

Behold, my new kitchen herbs windowbox! Having spent the last ten years living in a big city batcave, this excites me to no end. I haven’t the slightest clue as to what I’m doing, but the guy at the local plantstore (which specializes in aquatic gardening ..Brian’s head is spinning at the idea of a pond with lilies in the yard) said that these herbs could co-exist in a box if I’m very careful about watering them and keeping the peppermint in control.
Apparantly peppermint likes to be the boss of the other herbs and tries to take over.
I’d like to see him try.
Herb bully.

I am so impressed by anyone who can grow something. Truly amazing. I don’t grow plants, I kill them. Accidentally of course.

I used to be the Education Director for the Greater Fort Worth Herb Society (volunteer position, can you believe there is such a thing?) Yes, I’ve been growing culinary herbs for lotsa years. Just in case you’re thinking of fertilizing these babies — don’t. they like poor soil. However, if you must, give them fish emulsion (liquid, you can buy it in the garden stores). It’s safe to eat and stinky enough to keep bugs away. If you get aphids or other bugs, spray w/hot pepper sauce mixed in H2O.

peppermint is always the troublemaker.
