When will the computer issues cease? I do not know. But my recently rebuilt Powerbook is NOT behaving. Complicated hi-tech activities such as cutting & pasting seem to be difficult for the poor little thing. Crashes every day. I’m stumped. But 2007 is going to be a booming videoblogging year for me, dammit, and this computer had better start doing its damn job pronto.(it just froze again…I think the silver bastard reads my every thought)

    Fearless Videoblogging… sounds like a plan! :D

The problem with data is that you have to back it up, but then, how often to back up, then, how much to back up? Back up your pictures? Back up your videos? Back up your original DV files? Back up your computer’s OS? Monthly? Weekly? Let the computer do it every night while you sleep? How much data are we willing to lose? How much are we willing to risk? What if the whole drive goes? What if the drive is fine and the video card fails? What if the DVDs or whatever we backed up to DISAPPEAR??? :O

Yes. It’s always a drag to lose information. You’re right that thinking about it can be stifliing. Too much deciding and too little blogging. Too much worrying and too little original content. The best we can do is implement a strategy to make backups and know that we are doing our best not to lose data… then forge ahead.

Side Note: I knew someone for a long time and then they temporarily lost their memory. Their ACTUAL memory, not their computer’s memory. :/ If you think losing videos, pictures and email conversations is a drag (which it SURE is!), wait until you walk into a room and someone you have a long history with stares at you like they’ve never seen you before……

Anyway… Good Vlogging and Good Computing for 2007! :D

Awww, missb… that sucks! Listen, get a good $100 external hard drive and back it all up. (I have has 2 Lacie drives and recommend them.) I know that doesn’t help much now but it will give you peace of mind in future.

Glad you’re vblogging again! Happy 2007!!!

Yay! You’re back. I’m having problems right now too, but with the camera connection to the computer, so I’m kind of hampered by only being able to TAKE photos, but not transfer them.

But I agree with everyone who recommends back-up. I’m afraid that is a lesson ALL of us learn the hard way!

Happy 2007. On to bigger and better vlogging.

    Hey missb!
    Happy New Year!

I often think about videoblogging in the same realm.. perhaps memories are just for keeping in our heads. I often wonder why I’m always carrying around my camera and am obsessed with capturing everything.. I’m not sure….. but…. glad your back vloggin and hopefully your computer gets fixed really soon!!!!

Ok here’s the deal, run Mac Janitor once a week. After that repair your disk with disk utility from the installation disk. Then repair your permission from the boot up drive (meaning take the installation disk out and run disk utility). Worked wonders for me even though I have one of those shoddy Deskstar hard drives. Seriously. The Mac is still on its second install since I bought the thing in Oct. 2003. Ran it as a dual OS 9/OS X machine until Panther came out. Been strictly Panther since mid 2004. I got the maintenance from the David Pogue book. I was a Windoze noob so 2 installs in 3 years is like turning lead into gold for me, you know what I mean?

Don’t be afraind to vlog! Fearless vlogging, I like that theme.

To puit your mind to rest some tips:
Get at least 2 drives to backup everyhitng 2. KEep one at work, or family, the other at home. I’ve got about 3 drives I’m always backing up to.

And cross post. It always helps if something goes wrong on some services server.

HAppy Vlog year! Gabemac from xolo.tv

I am glad you decided to post again. These computers are just tools. I recommend backing up to CD if you can. I am six+ months behind on that, so I need to do it too.

    Welcome home!
