Or Here for MPEG4/mp4, which I have to say, looks ever so slightly cleaner.

I have a love/hate relationship with the bus. There is nothing worse than schlepping to Port Authority–a little piece of recently renovated hell on Earth– straight out of work first thing in the morning and standing on line in a stink, bleak basement to take a jam-packed three-and-a-half hour bus trip upstate. I hate it. However, as the trip progresses and you pass the seemingly endless sprawl of Paramus the trees get bigger, the towns get smaller and the distance between them grows wider, I start to love it. Three hours seems like nothing when you end up world’s away.I will, however, make 2007 the Year of Learning How to Drive.*

*Note: I have been saying that sine 1993 when I received my first learner’s permit. I’ve been renewing it every five years. But this time I really mean it.

Musical Bits:
Ministry “Reload”, Filth Pig, 1996 Warner Brothers Records
Milton Nacimento “Minas” , Minas, 1976 Water Records
Because these two songs are completely fabulous in totally different ways, just like NYC and Upstate.

(I left this once and it didn’t seem to “take”). How often do you make this trip? I have to admit that the shots at the end of the video were peaceful and lovely, on contrast to the beginning.

I love NYC and I love Upstate.
    Buses make me nauseous though!

I think this video is very interesting, there is a story you are telling and the way you are doing that amazing, very nice footage and editing, this video looks a little different from the old ones, you are growing in your way of vlogging

Cool video I liked it a lot - reminds me of taking the bus and using snail transport all the time - cars are great and all, but you never get to just watch the world go by, like in this video.

Loved the end of the trip. What a beautiful area. It really does seem very peaceful, the music was the perfect touch for the scenery. Nice job as always.

You MUST learn to drive. Buy a car, then you will have pressure to learn. When you drive, you own the world. You can stop and relax anytime you want. You can leave anytime you want and you can haul your friends all over hells half acre:)

Holy crap. One way? I have to say that if there were a metal for finding something positive out of a three+ hour commute, you’d be getting one in the mail.

Seriously though, a friend of mine in Atlanta routinely switches off between his 1.5 hour drive to work with taking the bus (2.5 hours) because he found that spending that time doing anything other than driving felt more satisfying and productive, so maybe there’s something to the license procrastination…

In London we have a central bus (coach) station at Victoria, but it is either street level or open-air with glass roofs, so seems a bit cheerier than the Port Authority. I should get out more on the bus and see more of England… I’ve seen so little in 8 years!

Great choices of music, esp. the Nascimento piece. Lovely music, lovely scenes.

Hey MissB!!! Just wanted to let you know that the podcast of the radio show interview with REiD (Cuddle Party) & the sexpert (Grant Stoddard) is now available. At my site, just click the media player to start the show. If you can’t get it to play or it doesn’t start, just let me know.

You live farther north than I thought. Cairo or somewhere? That Port Authority place really is stink-ass depressing, though. I’ve only been there a couple times but that was too much.

I guess busses are better than hitchhiking up the Thruway but they aren’t better than very much. Sorry you have to do such a long trip. That must suck!

hey, that looks like delaware county! are you moving up for real? move DC vloggers! and yes, we have certainly eaten at the Andes Hotel (though we had the french onion soup!) heck, it’s within a stone’s throw of our house! Andes rocks! Kind of awesome the bus comes directly from port authority, and you’ve captured it nicely (though i’ve never ridden it. ) :)
cheers! We’re finally getting some real snow!

I live in the Adirondacks today. In a few weeks I may be a lot closer to NYC. I won’t be in Manhattan but I’m sure. Since I’ve lived upstate I’ve loved it. It is such a beautiful part of NY. But it is so different from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are advantages and disadvantages to both places. It is kinda neat that you get to have both. And that you can look at the bright find the silver lining. Thanks for sharing.

A women of color digging Mininstry? Yeah! Like me digging Tina Marie and Rick James and I do! If you love the city and the counry, maybe Philly is the answer. Cheaper and closer together. And good RN pay too!

I do most of my reading and studying on public transportation here in Chicago. It is dirty and loud and occasionally stinky, but I have a high tolerance for all that if I can stick my nose in a book. But some people (like my wife) do not have a high tolerance and are much happier with their day if they drive. That said, where would you park in the city while you’re working? Wouldn’t it be expensive?

Beautiful video blog, btw! Looking forward to more!

Great vlogging MissB. Interesting, long trip you take to get to work and back. Pay must be good, or else you work in a great environment to put up with the commute.

For me, a driver’s license and a good car is a MUST. Though I do love riding the subway when I’m in the bigger cities.

Oh good I found you. My laptop also suffered a sad little heart attach and is still in care convalescing. Meaning that I lost all my links … you being one of my favorites. With the wave of relief that came over me when I saw your funky green stars I thought I should send a little note to tell you just how much I appreciate your videos. Love your facial expressions … they make me giggle so!
