I am not old enough for this to be happening to me. Age is just a number. Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you if you’re young at heart.
Kill me. Or, at least stab me in the neck with a fork.
1987 mean anything to you? Anyone? Iran-Contra? “Tear down that wall”? Chunnel? Jim Bakker? The FDA approval of AZT? I still haven’t found what I’m looking for? Swimming to Cambodia? Raising Arizona? The Princess Bride? (also Ishtar, but just ignore that). Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me? The Simpsons?
2007. 1987. 2007. 1987. Get it yet? See the connection? No? Anyway…
I’m actually not a big My Chemical Romance fan, but I respect any band willing to mock themselves and their audience so early in their career. Right on. And I completely understand that their new album speaks to some kids in much the same way Nirvana spoke to those before them (and I didn’t get it) and The Smiths spoke to me (which I TOTALLY got). Time marches on, and perky glum rock marches right alongside it. But music magazines are making this record out to be some sort of musical second coming–albeit a snarky musical second coming in glammy Sgt. Pepper-wear– but, still! They’re comparing My Chemical Romance to Queen! Seriously!
If My Chemical Romance is the new Queen then…well…I don’t know. Maybe I should record an album with Rob Cavallo and I’ll be hailed as the greatest new voice in Rock.
Or Rick Rubin! How about Rick Rubin! All the cool kids are doing it…

SNOW DAY!! Winter wonderland, indeed! It’s overwhelming! It has been snowing non-stop since last night and we’ve got tons of snow on the ground. It’s hard to say how deep it is because giant drifts have been blown all over the place but it must be at least two feet. And now that Main Street has been plowed, there are huge piles of snow rimming the sidewalks as well. The few sidewalks we have a totally buried. Very few people have shoveled (why bother, it’s still snowing!) so you have to walk right up the main road. No cars to worry about–only a fool would be out driving in this. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a storm this big outside the city. It’s so gorgeous and this charming one-stop-light town looks like a vintage postcard!(and actually, we don’t even have a stop light, just a lone yellow caution light. It makes an appearance in the video)
My vacation got extended by five days and I dread leaving. Winter in the city stinks! When it snows it’s really lovely for about three hours then everything gets frozen and filthy and sooty and filled with garbage. When it finally melts there are newly freed piles of trash floating around. Blecch…but this?
This is Winter Heaven.
Admittedly, a shovel would be nice.

Firmly ensconced upstate, now with working internet, awaiting a big snowstorm and enjoying a city-style snack.I like this little town more and more each day.

I’ve watched this several times today. I can’t stop watching it. It’s swimming around my head and I can’t get it out.
We will have to rethink…everything. And I for one am excited as hell about it.
