After watching the Guitar Hero wunderkind, BigB and I were inspired to get back into the swing of gaming. It had only been, what, 20 years? I’m exaggerating, of course. The last system I owned was a Sega Genesis and man, I could kick some serious Mortal Kombat II butt. I could rip out hearts and deal out fatalities (and Babalities!) with the best of them. Sometimes I’d disconnect the Genesis and plug in the NES. Mario and Luigi were my very own brothers, and we would sail into the clouds, collect coins, bounce those damned turtles around and save the girl on a nightly basis. That was high-tech stuff!
Adventure? Well, that was high-tech in its day, too. Somehow.
I have no idea how I EVER got through that game. All I know is that now I can’t. It’s totally embarrassing. My only consolation is that BigB can’t break his way out of Breakout’s first layer of bricks to save his life.
These games aren’t even in a console. They’re stuffed into old-skool joysticks that plug directly into the projector. Sweet hotness.

Wow! You’re rubbish at these games!
I bet I would be, now, too.
Things I’d forgotten that used to rule my world.
Things I tried to recreate by programming them myself, but seemed impossible.
The hours lost.
I just read the Adventure article you linked to. It was 4 KB. My To Do List Word document is 20 KB.
And it was AMAZING.
Thanks for the memories
Now go practice.

my folks never gave in to my brother and my requests (demands?) for any gaming systems, when we were kids, so we took our quarters and went to arcade outside of harvard sq. in cambridge. back then, i was the queen of tempest, spy hunter 2, and pole position.
besides playing grand theft auto twice a couple of years ago, where i was infinitely more interested in driving the cars off of bridges and things and stealing tanks and police cars, i’m sooooooo not a gamer. i do have super nes roms on my ibook, and when i want to de-stress, i play super mario world. i suck at most of the games, but i’d still rather play them than guitar hero.

That damn pesky flea!!
I think my favorite part of this video was when you called that surprisingly agile bat that stole your key a sonofabitch. I laughed out loud for like 2 minutes. I miss Zelda.
Also, have you seen this?

This is hilarious! I love just listening to you two interact!
“so oldschool it’s got no sound effect when you die…”
